I went into this film basically blind, and stumbling upon a gem like this one doesn’t happen often when going in blind! I knew Kyle Gallner was in it and it was about a serial killer. But that’s it. Thought we were getting a pretty basic formula. Kyle Gallner chasing a girl or others throughout the woods and adjacent locations on a killing spree. Boy was a wrong. This film takes you through an extremely wild and interesting ride, jumping around by chapters without a specific timeline until you get towards the third act when the puzzle of the timeline is able to be fully pieced together. I really liked the idea of having chapters and then telling little pieces throughout of the story while allowing each chapter to have its own cliff hanger of sorts. The film plays with our emotions and expectations, all while taking us on a ride we can’t predict.
Willa Fitzgerald as the Lady is captivating. You really don’t know what she is all about until the hotel scene when we find out she is the Electric Lady and actually the serial killer of the film. We get nonstop tension of chases in the woods, rough foreplay, and home hiding out, thinking Kyle Gallner is the killer. The intense foreplay really takes you through it as you don’t know what’s safe or what intentions are from either party, making it almost uncomfortable to watch and see unfold. Only for the plot to be flipped on its head with a twist I honestly didn’t see coming in the slightest when she drugs him with fake cocaine and slices into him her famous brand before he shoots her ear off and narrowly escapes. At this point we see she is ruthless to try to survive as you’d expect, killing the hotel manager, the old man, and making the old woman lock herself away.

This film does a great job of relying on your own imagination as a viewer to elevate the film before you know The Lady is the killer. Turning tense moments into extremely concerning and nervous experiences. I wasn’t sure how we were going to get to the finish line when she was cuffed in the freezer and shot. It was ingenious for her to get Kyle close enough to her to bite his neck, killing him and showcasing the scene as the cops came in as a violent rape scene to throw them off any scent that she could be the killer they have been looking for for quite some time, the Electric Lady.
The male cop is not buying that this is as straight forward as it looks and his partner is to believe. That little bit of doubt did wonders for me feeling like she would get caught in some way, only for the old lady to recognize her and then get shot as they drive by her in the cop car. Finally revealing to the cops she is the Electric Lady. The character that Willa Fitzgerald portrayed as the serial killer felt like she was so fleshed out and we knew so much even if only half the movie she was present in that form.

The ending was quite emotional, The Lady sees demons in people and it seems that drives her towards justifying that she should kill them. There was a flash of a demon in Kyle’s character as well in the hotel that shakes her and seemingly makes her justify killing him. She sees the flash of the demon in her own reflection after being rescued by a local woman. Seeing the bad within herself and deeply breaking her perception of herself and that there truly was no way out. Pulling the gun on the Good Samaritan and then being shot and bleeding out for a long as a beautiful sun shines from the outside into the car for a long take watching the life drain out of her.
The ending feels artistic, focused and purposely saying a lot about the Electric Lady without using dialogue. I loved this ending, I really really liked this film, and I’d easily put it in my surprise hidden gems category I would recommend to anyone for a fun twisted watch! Plus a killer named The electric lady is so badass.
