This blog is exactly as the title depicts, what stuck out to me from all of the CinemaCon news at 2026 CinemaCon. It is impossible to cover everything they showed or discussed so I am going to use my bias and favoritism to highlight a few topics and pieces of news that got me really excited. So let’s grab a drink and kick this blog off.
Let’s start with one of the biggest films that got one of the biggest ovations over the week, Avengers Doomsday. The Marvel fans got TREATED with all the news of the trailer detail. Highlighted by a battle involving Thor, Doom and Captain America, this trailer when it drops will break the internet. Also looks like a good focus on this to the X-men which I love because they are a market that Marvel is going to tap into big time to keep this new Avengers run fresh. Most importantly to me though… is that WE GOT GAMBIT BACK. I fucking love Channing Tatum, especially as Gambit, and a fight scene with Shang-Chi is going to be electric. Give me some Cajun filthy one liners and some card throwing and I’ll be at the edge of my heated AMC seat.
This was lowkey an extremely highly anticipate bit of news for all die hard Odyssey fans. Charlize Theron feels like the perfect casting for Calypso. She is BEAUTIFUL. Having to cast the goddess that defines divine beauty and has such a key role in Odysseus journey, they went with an amazing choice. It will be very exciting to see how Nolan will depict Theron as Calypso, from an outfit and style perspective to measure up to the expectations.
As a massive horror fan this trailer description for EVIL DEAD BURN got me even more pumped. We abandon the cabin again and are set in a family home where deadites run rampant in the trailer. You have a burning candle being drank, someone falling on knives, and a deadite impaled by a car seat headrest, what else can you ask for?? The teaser also being shown before The Mummy appeared to be a chaotic one shot that shows complete deadite chaos, which we all are here for as Evil Dead fans.
I’d argue the news surrounding Godzilla Minus Zero was some of my most anticipated news of the entire CinemaCon. Also, we got a trailer!! Godzilla’s new form looks massive, shown in the trailer by him towering the Statue of Liberty in one shot. The zero gravity scene has me extremely curious about the other Kaiju that would have done that. The first film had heart to it along with the carnage by Godzilla, really excited to see how they expand on that and build on this version of Godzilla and how the people in the universe are impacted by his presence and wrath.
Zach Cregger coming off of WEAPONS has a chance to do something massive with his next film RESIDENT EVIL, and that is to bring the film versions of Resident Evil back to relevance. Austin Abrams getting the lead role for being Zach’s guy is well deserved. Plus it’s going to be like a Marty Supreme style frantic run through infected streets, sign me the fuck up for this hype train.
Dog Stars, the biggest surprise film for me from CinemaCon I was not aware of. Love the cast. Elordi coming off Frankenstein could do some serious work here to grab people’s attention. Qualley needs a film like this because her film with Aubrey Plaza wasn’t great, thankfully people still are high on The Substance. Brolin is going to crush any role he is in as well. Plus this looks like an apocalyptic journey film and that sounds like a great time to watch and enjoy some Coke, popcorn, and airhead extremes.
Last but not least, finding out there is going to be a LONGLEGS 2?!? And Neon is washing their hands of it due to the budget?? Very surprising I wonder if they really wanted to ramp up the production value and spend even more on marketing after the first films success almost purely due to the marketing hype that got people in theaters to see it. I guess this is going to be a prequel, unless Longlegs becomes some beyond the grave entity like the Grabber has in The Black Phone. With all things considered, I will be seated for this.
