TOP 30 WEIGHTED/RANKED FILMS OF THE 21st CENTURY FROM COURTNEY AND FRIENDS

Inspired by Project Big Screen (Podcast), I decided to poll my friend group on their Top 30 movies of the 21st century ranked from 1-30. In order for this to be properly weighted with how high someone rated something, there were bonus points assigned for the #1 spot, top 5, and also if the film made their top 10. The points were staggered from there on, of course with films rated higher on someone’s list having more points towards its total. When all lists were received from myself and my seven friends, the data was combined and spit out this wonderful list of our weighted Top 30 films of the 21st Century!

Here are the results!

There was a lot of opinions and thoughts that went into this list. In order to see how we got here, you need to see the individually ranked lists and see how certain films like Revenge of the Sith, Elf, and Tropic Thunder made the Final Cut (even though they are undoubtedly great fun films, maybe everyone doesn’t agree with that for Revenge of the Sith, but oh well).

Here are each of our top 30 rankings:

These lists are extremely diverse, except we do agree on the Dark Knight pretty much across the board. Some of my favorite surprises on the various lists are:

  • Wild Hogs – holy shit I forgot this was a movie. Great pull Oak
  • Ex Machina – honestly more of us should have had this
  • Pootie Tang – the fact this made it onto someone’s favorite list is astonishing, right along with Jeepers Creepers 2
  • Nacho LIBRE and Coco – these are really really great films so only surprise is how high Nesto really had them due to his love for them
  • Arrival – it’s not surprising it’s on the list, it’s shocking it’s Mike’s #1 and we all failed him by no one else having it on their list
  • Mr Deeds – Never thought that movie of all Adam Sandler movies would be acclaimed so much by Justin
  • Click – Sandler is all over these lists, but this one has heart and comedy and way more heart than you could ever expect so I get it.
  • The Notebook – it not making the ranked Top 30 is devastating to me and makes me think we failed as a country.

I plan to do more of these rankings because it gets my friends and I talking film, and getting tangible results to review and compare which is always fun. The next one I am doing is Top 15 actors. So stay tuned.
